Meet Rodrigo Troitiño...

RODRIGO TROITIÑO
ABOUT:

Art Director + Graphic Designer + Visual Artist + Illustrator + Coffee Lover

Hello, you can call me Troito. I am 34 years old (15 of them working in advertisement agencies). I just moved to London and I am looking for a mid weight Copywriter to partner with and apply for freelance opportunities.

To face everything positively (except of bad coffee) is one of my usual natural reaction. Notwithstanding, everything may get better and this critical rule includes my own work, concepts, designs, illustrations, paintings, videos, career, home, etc. But bad coffee is always bad coffee indeed.

My personal projects in art are about good feelings and I make it to people. The Unknown’s Good Feeling Portraits is an awesome example. Basically in this interactive project I talk for 20 minutes with an unknown about his or her memories and I draw a piece of art inspired on the conversation. So far I have done this project in Brazil, Barcelona, Moscow, by the Camino de Santiago in Spain and Åland - Finland.

Meet Tommy Lai...

TOMMY LAI
ABOUT:

My name is Tommy and someday, I will be an excellent copywriter! However, before that happens, I need to find myself an art director and get really busy!

I hold a Diploma in Communication Design and I do have some knowledge when it comes to graphics and even animation. Although being an AD is something I could be great at, writing excites me a lot more. I am that annoying guy who corrects your grammatical mistakes in the middle of a conversation whom you will also expect to know that word you are looking for but can’t seem to remember.

I am also a very honest person. I believe in a truth well told and will always tell it as it is, however brutal it may be - you have to be able to not take things too personally to work well with me. I am pretty shy at first but as soon as you find me being weird and saying/doing things not everyone would, it means I am getting more comfortable and in sync with your frequency. Once you get comfortable with me being me, the sky’s our limit.

At this very moment, I am a copywriting intern at Wunderman Singapore and will be back by the end of September 2015 to start my second year at Bucks Ad School. I am always on the lookout for placement/job opportunities and whatever fun stuff there is to do.

I love karaoke too and you will have to deal with me singing a whole lot. I’m not even kidding here. I love performing and the world is my stage.

Meet Louise Shaw...

LOUISE SHAW
ABOUT:

I’m Louise; an Art Director that recently made the ‘big move’ down to London, after finishing a Creative Advertising course at Lincoln University.

Although I have no experience of working in the industry (yet), I have already had a lot of involvement with agencies from visiting them in London and New York, whether it be book crits or working on a brief given to me by Inferno, I have a solid understanding of how agencies work.

I am looking for a partner who wants to do more than just work for an agency - something extra. Someone who favours in Copywriting but can also give art direction advice. Someone who is fun and isn’t scared to break the rules and take a little risk to find the best idea for an Ad.

Please drop me an email if you’re interested and we’ll meet over a coffee.

I love coffee!

Meet Lenny James...

LENNY JAMES
ABOUT:
I’m a copywriter searching for a talented art director to help create a powerful portfolio in order to start the journey of finding placements in London. And I’m keen to start now
My journey to get this far has not been the traditional route. Moving from a successful career as a primary teacher (now aged 30), I have a wealth of experience in working collaboratively to create innovative and engaging ideas. I have also crafted original children’s fiction for the 8 – 12 age range from which I have refined my talent for storytelling and building powerful campaigns around one core emotion. Please check out my website below to see examples of how I have crafted compelling copy that targets the very root of a human emotion.
On a personal note, I live in Haringey, North London, where I play tag rugby in Finsbury Park and roam the streets in search of the tastiest local restaurants.
If you also live in London, like my work, and prepared to put in the graft to become a superb junior creative team then please get in touch.

Single Mingle...

That's right folks, we're getting physical. It's been a little while and the Single Mingle has been in hibernation, but on the 20th of February we're back. We're hosting a little get together for singles to hook up (in the creative sense). Whether you're an Art Director looking for a writer or a designer looking for someone with made ideas, bring your folio's, books or laptops (make sure they are charged!)

If you are looking for love however, then this event probably isn't for you - and perhaps you should focus your efforts on the 14th instead.

So, if you're interested You must RSVP to attend by signing up via our http://thesinglemingle.eventbrite.com/ page, but be quick there's a limited number of tickets, if you're names not on the list, you're not coming in. Naturally, we're hoping for a mixed bunch, so if you don't get in this time, our plan is to make this a more regular occurrence so please don't be disheartened.

Remember,
DHM, Soho Square at 7pm on Wednesday 20th of February.

See you soon folks!

Special thanks to DHM for letting us host the event hold the event at their humble abode! Design Credits to Mark Bennett for his rhythmic ribbon design skills.

Singles and/or Teams...

SINGLES &/OR TEAMS

Now, this is potentially quite a controversial subject in our Industry but it's something that directly relates to this site and what we do here... In my experience (having done both, full time & freelance with and without partners), I've found there are advantages and disadvantages to both. The main reason I set up this site in the first place was because I didn't feel that to be a great creative you 'had' to be in a team, but I think it helps to know that there are other people in the same situation you can work with, whether you choose to commit to a marriage or like some, choose to travel a road of creative infidelity (all aboveboard of course!). I'm not saying that you should work entirely alone either, the best work is rarely down to a single person, creative or otherwise and it's a lot harder work.

We could hark back to the days of Mr. Bernbach and the origins of 'the team', but we won't, if you have a vague interest in Advertising or have watched, dare I say it, Mad Men, you will more than likely know what I'm talking about.

I have recently read through the latest copy of the Creative Circle 'Magazine' not an annual. Interestingly, they have taken a different view, pledging to be "a lot more inspiring than printing a list of results" and instead chosen to 'Inspire not Congratulate'. A slogan first used by D&AD in 1987 and readopted for all intents and purposes by Creative Circle for 2012. This is the first edition and to be honest, I'm intrigued. There's a number of interesting articles, interviews and topics with some of the creative greats, of course it's got the award winners in the back.

Fortunately for you guys, I've been in touch with the team behind the awards (thanks Johnny) and they've sent me a copy of a feature by Matt Keon (Founder & ECD of 18 Feet & Rising) that address the same topic as above, I guess as a sneak preview if you like...

...And if you do like it, go buy it, at a cost just shy of £13 it's a bit of a bargain and that includes delivery. You can't go wrong!

Here's where you can buy it http://www.creativecircle.co.uk/#magazine

And here's where you can find out more about what it is that the Creative Circle do... http://www.creativecircle.co.uk/

Single Creatives & The YCC at D&AD New Blood...

This year you'll be pleased to know that we've got our first event as Single Creatives with The Young Creative Council, for all you lucky folk in, near, or within reach of London.
Along with the YCC we're putting on a smasher of a weekend... be sure to drop by for our Big Single Mingle and meet some folk!
Here’s a run down of what we’re up to with The YCC:
Single Mingle
Our off-shoot Single Creatives is hosting its first event to team up creative people, whatever your forte. We’re not just looking for copywriters, art directors and creatives… You can use it to find flatmates for that big move to London or even someone to help on a project.
How does it work you ask? Well, imagine speed dating, but with folios. You’ll have 5 minutes to chat with the person opposite you. On the buzzer/bell/air horn, if you like what you see, swap cards and see what happens. If not, the next possible partner is just seconds away.
We’ll be doing this on FridaySaturday and Sunday 3-4pm in the North Space. And we’ve set up individual Facebook Events for each to get an idea of numbers.
Also a big thanks and lots of whoops to the awesomeness of Mark Bennett of Shock and Awe for the poster.
Paul Antonio Do-Shop
Fresh from his amazing Weekly Score, we’ve enlisted the world famous calligrapher Paul Antonio to run an hour’s workshop on Sunday from 12-1pm. He’ll be letting you get involved and teaching you some tricks of the trade. It’s also a great opportunity to see how he works and ask him some probing questions.
Let us know if you plan to turn up using the old Facebook Event (when everything’s confirmed). It should be amazing.
Two Minute Tent
Think you can crack a brief in 120secs? Head to our Two Minute Tent in the North Space during the event and see what you come up with. We’ll provide you with the brand and you do the rest. We’ll be posting them all online and decorating our stand with your creativeness. There may even be a prize for the best (possibly a placement), so what have you got to lose? It’ll only take two minutes.
Skype Crits
Over the weekend we’re organising some global folio crits. We’re in talks with people as far away as America, Australia and Thailand in some amazing agencies to give you a unique opinion on your work. If you’re interested in getting your book seen, make yourself known to the YCC on the Thursday night and we’ll try and sort a slot for you.
Portfolio Surgery
On Friday there’s a portfolio surgery. And we’ve got a team there too. Emily and Cate are in charge of inputting their wisdom to your folio on behalf of the YCC. So if you see them around, say hi!
Y
You may have noticed on our Facebook Page we’ve started a project to create all sorts of Ys. At New Blood we’re taking this in to overdrive. Pop by our stand with your Y inspired picture and it’ll take pride of place on our stand. And we’ll add it to the collection online. There’s plenty of downtime at New Blood, so if you’ve got nothing to do, Y not have a go.
New Blood in Brief
Every day we’ll be doing a round up of what’s gone down at New Blood. From agency talks and industry interviews to a flick through work and what’s happen at our stand, we’ll tell you everything we’ve seen. And in a bitesize format. We’ll also be FacebookingTweeting #YCCatNB, Instagramming and wandering around. So if you want to catch any of us, we’re just a shout away.
Phew! We think that’s everything. We can’t wait.
The YCC x
